We just learned about Couple-Centered Recovery® How can we get started with this model?
Welcome! We're so glad you’re here exploring Couple-Centered Recovery® (CCR). It’s a powerful, healing model for couples navigating betrayal trauma and addiction, and we’d love to walk you through how to get started.
Here’s a simple roadmap based on this model:
1. Understand the Model (Orientation Phase)
Start by getting the big-picture overview of CCR.
-
Watch the CCR Overview Webinar for a foundational understanding of the three-phase process:
-
Phase 1: Safety & Stabilization
-
Phase 2: Grieving Together
-
Phase 3: Rebuilding & Growth
This gives you the framework and philosophy behind the model.
-
- Download Dr. Jake Porter's book, “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges” . The book is a brief and concise description of the model with action items for you to practice as a couple.

- Take a look at the phases within the model. Can you see what phases you're in as individuals? As a couple? (Remember we're never in just one phase, and we may move back and forth through phases as we progress. )

2. Engage in the Educational Pathway Together
Choose Connection Academy (CCA) Level 1 is your next best step:
-
It’s designed for couples in early recovery and focuses on building safety, understanding trauma, and regulating emotional responses.
-
You can begin at any time, and it's completely virtual.
-
You’ll learn about trauma’s impact on the brain, attachment systems, affect regulation, and how to start relational healing at a safe pace.
- Work at your own pace on your own with BASIC, or get personalized coaching with Dr. Jake with the GOLD program.

3. Consider Professional In-Depth Personal Support
Dr. Jake’s team at Daring Ventures offers:
-
Therapeutic Intensives (including formal disclosures supported by polygraph, if relevant)
-
Couple Coaching or Therapy using the CCR framework
-
Specialized groups for betrayed and betraying partners
-
They work with couples internationally via virtual and in-person options.

4. Begin Daily Relational Practice (Optional but Powerful)
The 40 Day Choose Connection Challenge is a great supplement:
-
Daily micro-practices via email to build emotional and relational skills
-
Best for couples who are not in crisis, but ready to invest in deeper connection work.
5. Prepare for Disclosure (if not done yet)
If your relationship includes problematic sexual behavior or secrets, a formal disclosure may be part of your journey.
-
Couple-Centered Recovery disclosures with Daring Ventures are carefully prepared over 6–8 weeks, facilitated with a licensed professional, and include optional polygraph validation.
